Wizard of OZ Munchkin Race
Glinda: The Munchkins are happy because you have freed them from the Wicked Witch of the East.
Dorothy: Oh, but if you please, what are Munchkins?
Glinda: The little people who live in this land. It’s Munchkinland.
My little sister, (who is not so little anymore), used to be terrified of the Wicked Witch of the West. There’s a part in the Wizard of OZ where Dorothy is captured and the witch’s head pops up in the crystal ball screaming, “I’ll give you Auntie Em!” Whenever she saw that part, my sister would quickly run out of the room. We would usually find her hiding in a closet. The funny thing is my sister was a witch for Halloween nearly every year! Green face and everything.
I love when Dorothy lands in Munchkinland and the Munchkins all celebrate. I’m a sucker for singing and dancing. The Munchkins were always intriguing to me. You’ve got to admit they were ugly little people.
I often wondered what it would be like to be a Munchkin, and I decided to give my kids a chance to find out.
- 1 over-sized shirt
How to Play:
- Have all participants line up at wherever you’d like the starting point of your race to be.
- Each participant must put on their over-sized shirt.
- Stuff arms and legs up inside the shirt.
- Without taking arms or legs out of the shirt, the participants race to the designated finish line.
This can get awfully funny if you fall over, because you aren’t allowed to take your arms or legs out of the shirt. Princess found the entire race silly, but lots of fun.
Goofy didn’t quite understand the rules…
But she tried hard.
Princess raced to the piano (our finish line). I did the race indoors on carpet so that if they fell they wouldn’t fall too hard.
Isn’t it fun to be silly sometimes?
