Tarzan: Drawing Shape Animals
“Shall I, ahem, leave you and the chalkboard alone for a moment?” – Professor Porter
Jane from Disney’s Tarzan reminds me of myself in a lot of ways. She is somewhat naive, unintentionally silly, and likes to draw. One of my favorite scenes in this movie is when she draws the baby monkey, won’t give up the picture, and is chased by the baboons. I was inspired by this scene to give my children a chance to learn to draw animals like Jane.
I wanted this activity to be somewhat educational. My hope was that it would help Goofy (my toddler) learn shapes and animals. Princess (my preschooler) knows her shapes and animals, but I planned for it to be an opportunity for her to learn to follow specific directions.

How to Play
- Print off your Drawing Animals with Shapes pages.
- Give your child a paper and a pencil.
- Have them follow the numbered directions to draw their own animals.
- Have fun!
Goofy enjoyed doing her own thing (so what’s new?). We did, however, discuss the shapes and animals before I let her have free-reign.
Princess proudly displaying all four of the animals. The next morning she drew animal “babies” to go with the mommies and daddies. She colored all of them with crayons. I’d say this activity was a success–Princess approved!
